(e.g. did you start reading fanfic and wish you hadn't? did you have your mind made up one way or the other and then change it?) I started reading Paradigm of Uncertainty way back in our original yahoo! days, because I saw Penny and Carole refering to it quite a lot. I trusted their opinions (we all seem to have quite similar tastes and opinions), and I was curious. It was so good (Lori is such an impressive writer that sometimes I swear that she's really Jo testing out new premises on an unsuspecting market) that I became hooked rather rapidly. From that, came A Sirius Affair which I also follow avidly. Then there was Cassie's work, Heidi's work, Ebony's work, Al's work, Alicia/Sue, Yael - my goodness I could go on and on. They're all such good and engaging authors that I have no regrets about plunging into the world of fanfic. It keeps me from obsessing about the fact that it will be another YEAR until OoP will be out. (And quite often, I find myself anticipating these chapters more than Jo's next volume - sacrilege, yes, I know.) And as long as I am able to separate their characters from canon, I'm okay.
