Though I was born and bred in East Texas (have you ever heard of Lufkin?), I temporarily live in very southern Oklahoma; I'm about 3 hours from Dallas or Amarillo. I also have relatives in San Antonio, so I visit different parts of the state throughout the year. As a matter of fact, I'll be down in Galveston for a few days in March, as well as Lufkin, as most of my family still resides in Lufkin. So, if anyone plans to meet in any one of those places sometime in the future and will give me warning, I can probably be there during that time. I do have a new baby though, which makes impromptu trips a bit difficult. Thanks again for your response. :) C > > Hiya and Welcome! > > We're still here, though nothing has been going on > lately. It is *not* a fanfiction convention. It is a symposium, with academic programming, as well as programming in fandom culture (which includes alot more than just fanfiction). We will have continuing education credit for lawyers, teachers and librarians. We will have presentations and panel discussions on gender issues, religion in the series, rule-breaking and "authority" in the series, discussions of HP as classic literature (or not), discussions comparing HP to other fantasy literature, etc. in the academic track. We're looking for presentations, panels, roundtables & workshops in fanfiction, fan art, website administration and general fandom issues on the fandom culture side. But, do check out the website (which is, btw, in the process of some reconfiguring due to technical issue) at: www.hp2003.org Penny [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] From pennylin at plinsenmayer.yahoo.invalid Sat Nov 23 02:37:34 2002 From: pennylin at plinsenmayer.yahoo.invalid (Penny Linsenmayer) Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2002 02:37:34 -0000 Subject: Nimbus - 2003: Unveils the Secrets of Submissions Message-ID: As the weeks continue to fly by, the January 15 submission deadline for Nimbus ? 2003 is quickly approaching. The Programming Committee wants * your * submissions. For those who haven't heard already, Nimbus is the Harry Potter Symposium that will be held in Orlando, FL from July 17-20, 2003. To help make the submissions process a bit easier for everyone, we have created a Submissions Guide/ FAQ to be used with the Nimbus Call for Papers. The Submissions Guide defines terms and answers questions regarding both submissions and presentations. If submission is something you have been considering, please give the Submissions Guide a read through. We look forward to reading all the great proposals that come our way. The Submissions Guide can be found at: http://www.hp2003.org/cfp/cfpfaq2.html. If you have any questions which are not covered in the Submissions Guide, contact the Programming Committee at HPProg at yahoogroups.com. Heyla, central Houston, not going to Nimbus 2003 because it conflicts with a professional conference I already promised my principal I'd go to (darn! darn!), but would be interested in a second viewing of the movie with other listies, in cosplay or not . . . :) -- - Boggles, aka J. We actually got to go see the Chamber of Secrets movie a day early, I won passes to an advance screening through AOL and Moviefone the day before it premiered to the public. I was surprised that the advance screening was so low key. The theater was not close to full and only a few people in costume. I have been to other advance screenings and they have been absolute madhouses. We're in Southwest Houston, when we go to movies, we usually go to the AMC in First Colony. Depending on what side of town we are on during the weekend, is where we're going to go see the movie. I have family in North Houston, DH has family South of Houston. It just depends on when we can spare a few hours.
