She did, thank you, Elizabeth! (I owe you an email! :-) ) > Thought it may be useful to keep track of who is willing and > where they're willing to meet. Yes; I've set up a basic table: Member/email address, City, Contact. I'd be glad to add any other categories, if anyone has any suggestions. Re 'Contact', this can be anything; my thinking was for 'best way to contact'. I was going to add my phone number, which I'm happy to give, but I actually don't answer the phone much , so email or YM really is a better way to reach me. > I'm near Lewisville. But I can go just about anywhere my little > car will travel. I'm in San Antonio, but would be willing to go as far as Austin that night, if more people want to meet up there. I know we have more SA members than just Amanda and I -- Adan, you're here, yes? And Jo, where will you be buying your copy? Are y'all even doing the midnight thing? Anyway, would love to wait in line with a bunch of HPfGU LOONs. My daughter has prevailed upon me to attend the Borders-at-Huebner-Oaks in San Antonio, because her good friend Brandy will be there as well. So there I shall be--but I'd love it if any other San Antonio folk could join me. Kelley--before I got roped into this, the Barnes & Noble where we were last time wanted us to do the trivia again. Maybe I can pawn Kasia off on Brandy's mom... ~Amanda From adanabbett at adanabbett.yahoo.invalid Mon Jun 20 20:54:32 2005 From: adanabbett at adanabbett.yahoo.invalid (Adan) Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2005 20:54:32 -0000 Subject: Dallas book party / New database table In-Reply-To: Message-ID: --- In HPFGU-Texas at yahoogroups.com, "Kelley" wrote: Kelley wrote: > I'm in San Antonio, but would be willing to go as far as Austin that night, if more people want to meet up there. Still here, though I have only been a sporadic lurker on all of the HPFGU boards lately, though I am getting revved up for the release (like everyone else!). I was on the road for the OoTP release, but this year we are at home. Anything I do will likely include my 11 y.o. boy, but a meet-up could be fun. Austin isn't out of the question for us, either. Also, a Q for those with Borders/B&N release experience: I have NOT pre-ordered our books (yet!). I didn't do the online because, living in Boerne, the mail runs much like the Pony Express and I didn't want to wait. Is it a MUST for picking up at those stores? For OoTP, we just ran into a Target we were passing, no muss, no fuss. ~Adan From paul-groups at smitster1.yahoo.invalid Mon Jun 20 22:41:07 2005 From: paul-groups at smitster1.yahoo.invalid (smitster1) Date: Mon, 20 Jun 2005 22:41:07 -0000 Subject: Dallas book party / New database table In-Reply-To: Message-ID: At the previous release in Lewisville, TX they had two sets of tickets. Since I signed up months in advance, I was given a ticket from the primary set--but only in the order of when I arrived to get my ticket. Those who did not pre order were given a ticket from the secondary set. Only after everyone in the primary set was each given a book was the secondary set served. If you have no plans to attend the midnight party, it makes no difference. --- In HPFGU-Texas at yahoogroups.com, "Adan" wrote: > --- In HPFGU-Texas at yahoogroups.com, "Kelley" > wrote: > Kelley wrote: > > I'm in San Antonio, but would be willing to go as far as Austin > that night, if more people want to meet up there. It has been so long since I posted that when I saw the "Jo" I mumbled just like Kreacher, "Is she talking to me?" I may not have been talking to "you lot" lately, but I have lost none of the enthusiasm for the Wizarding World the other Jo has created for us. The closest place for me to get the new book is Hastings in Kerrville about an hour away. My daughter that is in school at Tech is driving down so that we can pick up our copies at midnight. We ordered three copies. One for my daughter, one for me, and one for my husband. We learned with Goblet that we are not very good at sharing. Now another lady from here has asked me to pick up her two copies. She is OK with getting them the next morning, but I'm supposed to put them in her mailbox on the way back from Kerrville. I ran into one of my school aged HP buddies and his mom when I picked up OotP at midnight. I have asked them if they will be there too. They plan to be there too. It was faster last time to pick it up if you had not preordered, but I think the huge chocolate bar that Hastings gives you for preordering is worth the wait. Are any of you near Kerrville? Or Junction? Message-ID: <9.4823928f.300cd170@...> Who went to midnight book release events? We did, and it was a blast. Easily as many grownups as kids there for the book. LOTS of young adults, some older ones too. Loads of activities and giveaways at this bookstore for all ages. Not just HP related, but other books in the kids' fantasy genre too. However it was very obviously a Harry Potter event. The costume contest was HUGE. They as many high school age and above as little kids. But it was such a madhouse, I got precious few photos. I finished the book by Saturday evening, and my husband is reading it now. He wanted the story spoiled so I updated him as I went. I can't wait to get his take on it once he's read it himself. I absolutely loved it. And that's all I'm gonna say about the book itself in this post. I was so happy to go to a big book release event this time. We went with a local Harry Potter meetup group from online. For OOtP, we went to a big-name chain bookstore on our own, out in the suburbs and there wasn't much of anything. There had been a few kids' only activities but they shut down by 10 and it was just people hanging around and waiting after that. This time, it was the same chain, but an in-the-city location and they had all kinds of stuff planned from 9-midnight. Local news came out and taped the crowds and it was just fun all around. And now the wait for movie 4 starts... We went back to my house and read until we couldn't keep our eyes open. How fun!!!! It was history and I was a part of it!
