<<I sincerely hope they don't cast any Americans in this film..>>
This American leans in that direction also, but I wouldn't be totally
disappointed if they made a couple of exceptions.
Despite their ability to approach and even be high art, movies are also
business ventures, so I am preparing to reconcile myself to seeing one
or two well-known American names in an understandable attempt to ensure a
large American audience, the economic lifeblood of any big-budget picture.
That is slightly disappointing. Some of my favorite moview are 100%
U.K. - The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, The Hit, My Beautiful Laundrette
(Daniel Day Lewis as a bleached-blond, gay punk!), and several more.
There are so many British actors who would be wonderful and perfect
for a Harry movie. I was an early voter for Robbie Coltrane, and Tim
Curry is a wonderful choice, too. You can't go wrong with Alan Rickman,
Bob Hoskins, Michael Caine, Helen Mirren, Alec Guinness (a wonderful
Dumbledore, I would think), and many others.
Perhaps if they do cast a couple of Americans they will do a decent job
with the English accent, as so many English actors have done with American
accents. Apparently Michael Caine does a wonderful New England accent in
the just-released "Cider House Rules," and Minnie Driver, Bob Hoskins,
and many others have done wonderful jobs talking American. There's a
wonderful British stage actress in a new movie who plays a southern belle
type, and apparently it's a shock to hear her talk with her real accent.
Please, no Brad Pitts trying to play an IRA terrorist with an abysmal
attempt at an Irish accent!
