My 5 yr. old's favorite movies are Jurassic Park, Beetlejuice, Star Wars;
we've watched Conan (TV version-less sex), devoted to the Highlander
series, loved the Mystic Knights kid show and anything to do with dragons,
wizards, witches, knights, dinosaurs, he loved Men in Black and Mars
Attacks but (always a but isn't there) I also explain it all to him and
we watch all the shows on how movies and special effects are done. I'll
ask him if he's scared and he looks at me in annoyance and informs me
"it's just computer graphics and special effects, it's not real Mommy"
And I see this same attitude in his little brother who manages to
watch most of these things with us. Of course I could go with Disney:
Evil murderous Stepmother/Witch, Dog killing and skinning ladies, Evil
abusive step families, Mommys dying, Donkey kids, Child abducting and
torturous pirates...well you get my point. If you teach you kids whats
real and whats not then you shouldn't have any problems with what they
read or watch, well, other than wrestling. LOL
We don't have any toy guns or watch westerns or gun related shows;
swords and magic yes, guns no.
I am reading Harry to him, he loves it, he's 5 and he knows its "just a
story, Mommy!" And since when were kids stories 'tame'? Doesn't any of
these people who think Harry is evil remember any of their fairy tales
from when they were kids, that's some pretty heavy stuff!
Oh well, I just had to rant somewhere and since you all could relate I
dumped it here.
