Chatting is pretty easy on Yahoo. Just click on "chat" under "Our Pages"
in the left-hand frame, wait for a Java applet to download, and you're
in the "Harry Potter for Grown Ups" chat room.

As for communicating with someone when you're both online, download
the free Yahoo Messenger software. When you get it running, display
the "Friends" view and under the "Add" menu choice select "Add a Yahoo
friend." You can then invite fellow members of this club to be members of
your "friends' list," known as a "group" to the Messenger software. Use
the person's Yahoo handle (e.g., "ssg_boy") to invite them to be on
your list.

If your Yahoo friends accept your invitation, you will each know when the
other is online (assuming that you are both online and running Messenger)
and will be able to send each other "instant messages."

You can also create your own impromptu chat room in Messenger by selecting
"Start a Voice Chat" under the menu bar label "Messenger."

Probably sounds more complicated than it is. Using the club chat room
is the easiest way to go. Friday nights are probably best for me.
