Some years ago my sister and I were on an archeological dig in Norwich,
England. The rest of the diggers were English. We'd already been thru the
surprising differences between the American and English meanings of the
word "shag". I'll never forget when a very nice choirboy looking English
man called Malcolm turned to me and said in that beautiful clear English
voice "Have you got a rubber [actually, he said "rubba"]?" Needless to
say, Katy and I were dumbfounded, but after the "shag" episode" we were
ready for anything. However, we were a little let down that all he wanted
was an eraser.
