My husband and I were just talking about the hysteria. If Harry's so
terrifing then what about "Casper", "The Adams Family", "Goosebumps",
"Are You Afraid of The Dark". And I'm sure that there's many many more
that I haven't mentioned.
I personally think that the person who started all of this "Hysteria"
stuff hasn't got anything better to do with their time than to "try"
and start trouble.
I'm a Mother of three and my 9 yr. old and I are reading this
together. Her teacher is reading one of the books to the whole class. I
find them exciting and she can't wait until it's time to read the next
chapter.
Someone asked in another post asked if these books weren't to scary for
kids. It depends on the child. My 9 year old loves Harry Potter, But,
is scared to death of "Men in Black". Something in that movie scared her
to tears. And your all sitting there saying, Men in Black? As I said
before, It depend on the child. All kids have something different in
their little minds that's scarey, most parents know their kids and if
their anything like mine, their going to tell you and pull no punches,
" I'm scared Mommy" and you don't read it or you shut off the T.V. It's
that simple. Ofcourse it doesn't hurt to talk with them and tell them
that it not real and if it bothers them they don't have to watch it or
read it whatever the case may be.
The kids in Denver have far more serious problems and to imply that "Harry
Potter" could have anything to do with that kind of behavior is just nuts.
I hope that I haven't gone over board. But, this kind of behavior reminds
of when people would burn books from the library in the middle of the
street because they thought the weren't fit to read and they had no
idea what they were about. Someone told them they weren't fit to read
and that was enough for them.
Anyway, hope I didn't get too carried away.
