I think you guys are very right about how the twins seem to represent
one unit. In that way they sort of remind me of twins in "Lord of the
Flies" the boys could never distinguish which one was SAm and which one
was Eric so they just lumped them together and called them "Samneric"

But for me it seems that Fred's more dominant when I read the book,
I think mainly because he's shows this certain fondest for one of the
Team's Chasers, (I think its Alicia Spinnet... wasn't it Fred who sort
of stuck up for her during a quidditch game in the third book? I can't
reference cuz I still don't have my book back!!)
but I do know that it was Fred's head who drooped onto her shoulder
when Oliver launched into his quidditch tactics speech in Mudbloods and
Murmurs in book 2. ( but that might not be proof of him having a fondness
for her.)

anyway that's my thinking on the twins,
but I will really really really miss one of them if they die!! (but not
as much as Ron of course!!)
