I have a couple of thoughts about this whole thing.

First of all, there was a point in time when one of his posts stated that
this club only said that it was a discussion group about Harry Potter
visited by grown-ups. In this case, he's right. The description of the
club states: "discuss Harry Potter books with other grown ups." Now,
we can't argue that this club is specifically for "adult" (meaning
not 9-12 year olds, I suppose) *fans* when it doesn't say that in the
description of the club. So, if we do have another mr_beckhorn, and we
choose to argue with him, I don't think we can reasonably use that as
a reason for him to go away unless we change the description of the club.

Secondly, I agree with others of you about the almost impossibility of
reasoning with the unreasonable. I, for one, consider myself a Christian,
and in a sense, I believe in creationism. However, I also believe in
evolution. I can't ignore the logic of evolution (as a quasi-scientist),
but I don't want to take God out of the equation, so I meld the two
into what I consider a reasonably logic combination. However, there
are some out there who just don't bother trying to think things out for
themselves. They have a bunch of church leaders who are more than willing
to do their thinking for them, and hey, why not?! It makes their lives
easier. So these people are not going to take time off their crusade to
make life the way it "should" be in order to think on their own.

So, to sum up.... although I agree that most of these people come to
stir up trouble, as long as this club is simply a discussion forum, we
can't sit by and ignore those who want to discuss the books. If we do,
we're being just as closed-minded as they are. However, if we clearly
state that this club is for adult FANS, then we can with good conscience
ignore the trouble makers. Because if they come onto a FAN board and start
arguing, we know for a FACT that they're just coming to stir up trouble.

Whew. Sorry, I'm sure this is long, but I just had to get it out.

Jen
