Your theory may be true in general, but I think there are many
exceptions. I've always preferred _Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator_
to _C. and the Chocolate Factory_; and many of the later Oz books --
_Land of Oz_, _Patchwork Girl of Oz_, etc. etc. -- are IMHO superior
to _Wizard_.
