I've read oh... almost all of Jane Austen's books, and there's something
to the comment that they're almost all basically the same. However,
since I love the style, I love all the books. Pride and Prejudice and
Sense and Sensibility are very similar. In a way, Emma is also very
similar. Persuasion (my very-closely-second fave) is a bit different (as
well as shorter), and I'd recommend it highly. Mansfield Park (where the
name Mrs. Norris comes from in HP!) is okay, but honestly, I got really
mad when I read it. Perhaps that's the mark of a really good book - one
that gets you so involved that when the characters do something stupid,
you just want to throttle them - and I admit, I HAD to finish it to
find out what happened, but I'm not sure if I can say I liked it. Or,
more precisely, if I liked reading it. ;)
So! Read Persuasion - you'll love it. Read Mansfield Park to get a
little insight into what J.K. Rowling pictures Filch's cat to be like
(it's really funny once you associate the two), and then, if you decide
you love Austen and don't care if her books are very similar, read S&S
and Emma.
Just my opinions, I make no guarantees! ;)
