Well, I came up with the Part A, then decided it would be too easy for
most potterphiles, so I added the logic puzzle (Part B)
For Quiz # 5 We'll be discussing wands.
Quiz Part A: Fill in
To whom does each wand belong:
A. 10 '" willow (nice for Charms work)
B. 11" mahogany (excellent for transfiguration)
C. 13 '" yew (phoenix feather core)
D. 16" oak (think size)
E. 11" holly (phoenix feather core)
F. 14" willow (unicorn tail hair core)
Quiz Part B: Logic
Mr. Olivander says the wand picks the wizard. Here are some hypothetical
wands. You need to match the wizard to the length of his / her wand, the
outer material and the inner magic core. The Wizards are: Sirius Black,
Hermoine Granger, Remus Lupin, Severus Snape, and Fred Weasley. The
lengths are: 9 '", 11", 11 '", 12", and 13". Outer materials include:
Aspen, Cherry, Dogwood, Rosewood, and Womping Willow. Finally the cores
are made of Asp Tongue, Centaur Tail Hair, Dragon Heartstring, Eagle
Feather, and Unicorn Tail Hair.
Your Clues (should you choose to accept this assignment:
1. Snape's prickly wand does not have a core of eagle feather.
2. Remus' wand is made from a tree with very distinctive bark and has
a core of centaur tail hair.
3. Neither the cherry wand nor the wand made from womping willow wood
have a dragon heartstring core, and neither of these wands belong to
Sirius, or Snape.
4. Each of these wands belong to a different wizard: The 11" wand,
the dogwood wand, the wand with the unicorn tail hair core, the womping
willow wand, and the asp tongue wand.
5. Hermoine's wand is 2 '" longer than Fred Weasley's wand and 1"
shorter than Severus Snape's.
6. Hermoine's wand has a core of unicorn tail hair.
Good Luck. Responses and questions can be directed to CJ at
