Alas, I think generation X was the last generation of school kids to be
reminded that this was a faux pas. When I was a substitute teacher a few
years ago (way back in 1997 - can you imagine a 22 year old substitute
teacher?), I was appalled at how many kids wore their hats in class. And
amazingly, they seemed SHOCKED that I would ask them to take them off
while they were in my classroom! I even see people leave them on during
the National Anthem - which is a BIG blunder - espeically to a Navy
brat. ;)
Hm. Let's see if I can make this post a little more on topic. ;) I think
they do wear their hats as part of their uniforms - but I just CAN'T
imagine them as really tall pointy hats. What a pain that would be. I
think they probably toned them down for classroom use - now they're a
little more squat and aerodynamic - and they leave the really tall ones
for formal use.
Jen (who has given up making her community college students take of
*their* hats - too many of them have been arrested for assault.)
