>>>There are five boys in Harry's dormitory but that is not all the
Gryffindor boys of his year

Not true. I refer you to CoS, chapter 5, pg. 85 Scholastic edition:

"(Ron and Harry) at last reached the door of their old dormitory, which
now had a sign on it saying SECOND YEARS....The dormitory door flew
open and in came the other second year Gryffindor boys, Seamus Finnegan,
Dean Thomas, and Neville Longbottom."

Note that it says "the other second year Gryffindor boys," NOT *some*
of the other...

Also, in SS/PS when the first year Gryffindors and Slytherins have their
first flying lesson, there are exactly 20 brooms, and Madam Hooch tells
them to each take a broom. This is JKRs universe, and she has created
it with approximately 10 students per house per year. Probably not
exactly 10 in every house or every year, but this clearly seems to be
the average number.

I know, I know, there were 200 Slytherin supporters at one Quidditch
match but I maintain (I know I have said this a zillion times) that many,
if not most, of them must have been alumni.
