The classical connotations are scattered liberally throughout.

Albus means white in latin.

Poppy Pomphrey - the poppy is the source of opium, a drug for rest,
sleep etc. Pomphrey I'm not sure about.

Minerva was the goddess of wisdom - and Prof McGonagall sure is wise!

Severus means strict, austere or severe in latin.

Personally, I love the idea of a phoenix, a bird associated with fire,
being called Fawkes.

(I've got a nasty feeling that some of these were mentioned ages ago,
but there are so many messages posted these days I can't keep up with
them all - apologies to anyone who feel s they are being plagiarised.)
