I took it to mean that Dumbledore was HOPING for this result. Not because
he wants to hurt Harry, but because in some way doing so is going to
prove a weakness for Voldemort. He has taken on the power that Harry's
mother imbued him with, that of total and unconditional love... how
could that not affect him somehow?

Just my take on it when I read it.
