okay...
that was rather a warped view.
the way I see it is that asking what someone sees in the Mirror of Erised
is a rather personal question, so Dumbledore just made his answer up

I don't know...I have a lot of socks that go missing in my house...seems
house elves might be breaking in and snatching them up to outfit their
