Some of my favorites include "A Wrinkle in Time" as well. Also:
CS Lewis' Narnia Chronicles
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Series
Lewis Carroll's Alice stories

Stuff for grownups:
"Wicked" - by Gregory Maguire (it's a take on The Wizard of Oz from the
witch's point of view)
"Good Omens" - Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchitt - I laughed out loud when
I was reading it.
and
"Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming", "A Farce to Be Reckoned With",
and "If at Faust You Don't Succeed" - 3 books by Roger Zelazny and Robert
Sheckley - all very funny.

Also - Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" - an absolutely fabulous book.

And my favorite book of all time (and I read EVERYTHING) A Prayer for
Owen Meany by John Irving.
