After reading all the posts on the upcoming HP movie, a certain theme
seemed to emerge. I'll state it as it honestly sounds:
"The movie is going to suck so let's hate it now."
Now, of course, I know I'm exaggerating and no one here is being that
vicious (and not every single person expressed this sentiment). But
honestly, doesn't it look to you like "we're going to be disappointed
so let's save them the trouble and do it ourselves ahead of time"? And
isn't it a bit bitter, to say the least? C'mon! Don't be Muggles and
expect the worst...expect the best!
Granted, many filmmakers have taken liberties with books and made
massacres of them--there's no denying that. But I HIGHLY doubt Spielberg
would do that. Sure, maybe "Hook" wasn't as good as it could have
been...but remember that Spielberg is also the man who did "E.T."! Now
who here hated THAT? If you do...how could you like Harry Potter??!?! If
E.T. didn't make you feel like a kid again filled with wonder, well
then you missed out on something that those of us who were entranced
will always treasure.
Added bonus: if Spielberg directs, then John Williams will most likely
do the score...and I don't know how familiar you are with JW but I'll
tell you now that we could be in for the next great movie theme. John
Williams also did "E.T." by the way, and you remember how it goes don't
you? Maybe you'll be humming the "Harry Potter" theme soon...who knows?
I guess all I'm saying is- yeah I understand that it could suck and
maybe there is a reason to take it with a grain of salt, but there's
also a lot to be hopeful for. Good people are going to work on this,
and Rowling herself has a say (Spielberg will listen to her and respect
her world--trust me, he will). So let's not kill the movie before it has
a chance. And if it does stink and I was wrong...then I was wrong. Oh
well. :)
