I did get a chance to run through that article. But I think what she
(the author) forgets is that the adventures are told through Harry. I
believe there is only one scene that is not told in Harry's perspective
(right before Harry is dropped off at the Dursley's door). So in some
ways there should be that predominance toward the boys and the male role
models. Remember that Harry is only 11-13 and is bound to be squemish
about girls. The writer remarks about how although hermione is smart,
she chickens out when something bad goes wrong (like the troll in the
washroom incident in book one) but aren't there many scenes where Ron
shows fear?... like the one with the giant spider?...Hermione is also a
voice of reason when Harry is very very angry and almost revengeful at
Sirius before he knew that he was innocent.

but I really think that the first point I made about it being told from a
boy's point of view is really what makes the difference. I really have no
big insight on this but I remember when I used to be squemish about boys
and all I would talk to and play with were girls, girls, girls and the men
confused me in general. I think that's the reason for the predominance.
