Perhaps we should replace the word "imagination" with "dreaming." They
are not the same.

iago_nyc: you bring up a good point, that people who read different
things do not necessarily lack imagination. It's interesting that you
used the example of quantum mechanics, because that indeed does take a
lot of imagination to be able to conceptualize what is going on.

But while people may have imaginations and use them in different ways,
what I believe is missing from most people these days are dreams. People
don't seem to have dreams anymore. This condition reminds me of Langston
Hughes famous poem:

"What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?"

Everyone is stuck on "survival" mode and this usually means money. Almost
everyone is living just to make money. I understand that there are bills
to pay, but I think--no, I KNOW--life is so much more than this! And THIS
to me is what Harry Potter is all about: living your dreams. Muggles are
people without dreams, or who don't pay attention to them...and there
are far too many Muggles. I don't hate them...I just feel sad for them.

The story of J.K. Rowling and the creation of Harry Potter in itself
is a testimony to this. I'm sure you are all familiar with how it all
started on scraps of paper in a cafe. Rowling is a real life person who
is a living example of following your dreams. She is the real hero of
Harry Potter, at least to me.

Well that's my two cents. (smile)
