It's collectors who are ridiculous, not that dad. The Sacajawea dollar
(what is its nickname? 'squaw dollar' would be totally politically
incorrect!)is an example. Ten of them got out a month before the mint
released them -- they had gotten into a bin of quarters. And collectors
paid a pretty penny for those ten, even tho' thousands more would
flood the market in a month. Their high value must depend on having
a certificate travel with them, vouching that this is coin that was
released early. I wondered what if some collector sold the certificate
with a different copy of the coin and then revealed what he had done?
