I've been looking for info on the cover artists of the British HP books.
So far, all I can establish is that both Thomas Taylor and Cliff Wright
are established illustrators for children's books (Wright is the more
prolific). They have mostly illustrated books for younger children (3-7
years) and both have illustrated their own books for children as well
as illustrating the work of other authors.
Cliff Wright's first book "When the World Sleeps" was published in 1990,
and was runner-up for the Mother Goose Award. Since then Cliff has
written and illustrated two further titles "Crumb" and "The Tangleweed
Troll". The most famous book he's illustrated (apart from CoS and PoA)
is a 1994 version of "The Wind in The Willows". Cliff lives in Newhaven,
East Sussex.
I must agree with Simon's asertion that the cover art for Book 4 looks
more like Wright's work than Taylor's, although it's reportedly Taylor's
handiwork.
