Hi:

I'm still outraged, so I'm going to vent! I read yet another article
this morning on harrypotteranonymous that indicates that the NY Times
has created a separate children's bestseller list, starting July 23rd.

I think *I'm* so very upset by this because I don't know if I would have
ever read the HP books in the first place *but for* their phenomenal
track record on the NY Times Bestseller List. That was the real catalyst
for me buying the books for myself. Sure, I might have heard about them
eventually from other adults. But, would I have given the recommendation
the same credence absent their presence on the bestseller lists? Maybe
 . .

Besides, these books are going to be eventually geared more & more to
an aging audience (if not fully adult audience). I could make a strong
argument that Books 1-2 are really the only ones that could be truly
said to be geared for that 9-12 age group.

If Book IV sells, oh 10 million copies, this year, how many of those
copies would you imagine would be bought by adults for themselves or
other adults? I would think at *least* 50%. So, how can they justify
only putting the book on a "children's bestseller list"? Shouldn't it
really go on *both* lists???

I can't help but wonder how many copies #5 - #10 on this "children's
bestseller list" will have sold (the 4 HP books will obviously take
the top 4 slots). Why don't they just create a HP List? It's going
to be a joke -- there will be such an incredible gap between #4 and
#5 in terms of copies of sold! Plus, if there's been no need for a
"children's bestseller" list up to now, why would there be a need for
one after 2004-2005? Or, can't you just forsee the 7 HP books just being
perpetually in the top 7 slots -- it's possible.

Okay, I could rant on and on and on . . . I did write and mail my protest
letter a couple of weeks ago. I could locate the message # where I posted
it again if anyone else is interested. Or, maybe I'm the only one who
is really stirred up by this subject. <g>
