Apologies and consumption of untasty words are not required. It does feel
odd though. Going through all that secrecy rigmarole and then releasing
the actual cover. Publishers generally have several candidate covers
and I honestly thought this was one of the rejects.
As for the "accidental" sales... no way is that an accident. Look at the
publicity it generated. Scholastic could hardly have bought that kind
of coverage and here it is for free. I only wonder why they thought they
needed it. They're going to sell every copy they could print before the
first of August. Even those of us who routinely avoid this kind of opening
crush and won't get our copies until mid July won't be affected. My best
guess is that they are going for even broader market penetration.
And I'm probably in the minority here but I actually like the cover.
