"McGonagall is a lesbian who's been with the same partner since college
days. I've been wondering
who her partner is ... maybe Madam Hooch."
Strange as it may seem, this crossed my mind too, not that JK Rowling
is likely to incorporate scenes of Sapphic domestication into the series.
When my old school merged with the local girls' High School, we were
suddenly blessed with women teachers (unheard of in the boys' Grammar
School, but in the majority at the High School). Two of these teachers -
the deputy head and the games mistress - 'lived together'. The deputy head
was severe and saracastic and wore those sort of retro glasses with pointy
edges (except they weren't quite so retro then) and strings of pearls;
the games mistress, on the other hand, was a thin 'jolly hockey sticks'
type with short, grey hair and an aggressive manner.
Uncanny, now I think of it.
