Happy July 8, everyone!
I'm on the west coast of the U.S., and I had to wait until I got off
the morning shift at work to settle in with my new book, but I wanted
to share my glee with y'all before diving in.
I think that most good bibliophiles have mixed emotions about the
huge bookstores. It's nice to know that there's a place where you can
find even the most obscure titles (as long as they're still in print)
and bargains on bestsellers, but you would hate to see them drive the
independents out of business. Nevertheless, I am thrilled with amazon.com
at the moment. I was SURE that they'd find a way to screw up the Saturday
delivery, what with me living out here in the boondocks (80 miles away
from the nearest store to host a midnight release party -- and even at
that I contemplated going), but sure enough, my copy was waiting for me
when I got home. Magnificent marketing ploy on their part.
Now I must get to my reading. My 21-year-old "little" brother has
declared that he's taking the book to work with him on Monday morning
whether I'm finished or not, and I'm going to have to take a break to
go to work tomorrow.
See you back here when we're all done reading.
