Hi:

I like Danemead's suggestions re: a structured chapter discussion
method. I agree with Neil that it will be hard to keep it entirely
focused, especially for awhile as people will want to jump in with
whatever they are thinking of right that second. But, it's a good way
to impose *some* structure for those that would enjoy it.

I do want to stress though that we should all keep putting SPOILER
warnings on, even for the discussions of the early chapters. It seems to
me that it will be very easy to inject later events (with 20/20 hindsight)
into discussions of even the earliest chapters.

I will volunteer to summarize Chapter 1 -- later today. This chapter
seems to me to be one where it will be very easy to fall into the trap
of letting knowledge of the ending of the book fall into your discussions
of this one.

It would be really nice if we could do structured discussions of one
chapter a week, since that would definitely keep us occupied until next
summer. I have a feeling that won't be a problem though since this book
is so packed with information, complexity & so forth.

So many posts I want to respond to -- I should forget doing any real
work today, shouldn't I?

Penny
