Oh, I agree! It had the feel of: 'Yawn...oh, I suppose I'd better review
this kids' book that everyone's going on about', and I think it typified
the snooty attitude of many British literature critics. They are either
like him, or rather shallow: 'Hey, my kids really love this - isn't it
amazing how popular it is?'.

In an effort to be seen as original, many reviewers simply lose the plot.

Check out the synopses of GoF on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. The latter
says something stupid like "she could have cut out 200 pages quite
easily," implying that JKR made the book really huge just to pander to
an adult readership (uh? & duh!). The US summary is much better.
