Hello everyone. I am an old lady of 56 who has been collecting and reading
great children's literature since the age of four. Yes, that's right. My
mother, a bookworm herself, taught me to read when I was so young I
don't recall ever NOT being able to read. I own most of the familiar
children's classics, as well as many which are no longer so easy to find
(such as the full set of The Little Colonel series, L. T. Meade's books
for girls, Elsie Dinsmore, Horatio Alger, Gene Stratton Porter, to name
just a few.) I go on record as saying I am a Christian, and I frankly
believe the uproar about the Harry Potter books is the worst sort of
witch hunt (no pun intended). They consistently support the triumph of
good over evil. They frankly state that love is the strongest magic of
all. I don't recall ever reading of anyone objecting to The Wizard of
Oz on religious grounds, though all the Oz books are full of magic and
magical characters. I find the Potter books incredibly well written,
with much better developed characters than most juvenile fiction, and I
am proud to add them to my collection. I hope you will allow me to join
your community and add my two cent's worth occasionally.
