The reason, if you go back into the bible history, that the line "Thou
shalt not suffer a witch to live" is in the bible is an easy question
to answer. It was added during the reign of King James. Sorta like the
lobbyists we have in Washington today, the physicians of the day were
very upset that women and men were turning to midwives and herbal women
instead of their (actually life-threatening) techniques. They talked King
James into adding a few extra lines to the bible when he did the reprint,
and since most editions are based upon the King James in some form, you
end up with the line that the physicians wanted in there to persecute
the midwives and get them out of practice--thou shalt not suffer a witch
to live. What better means of getting rid of your enemy than enciting
people fear of damnation against them?
I know this was off subject, but when I saw your post I had to add my
three cents. I have been studying Witchcraft since 92 and while I can't
quote you my exact source, I know it was a reliable one.
