Neil--I found out about the club by searching through the existing HP
Yahoo clubs. Actually, I was interested in starting a HP club for my
former fifth grade students, so that we could continue discussing the
books through the summer (which I have done, by the way). When reading
the various club titles "..for Grown Ups" caught my eye, so I took a look
and immediately joined. Interestingly, the messages I've read are similar
to the discussions that took place in my classroom (at a much more basic
level there, of course). What a GRAND series for a teacher to use with
her class! After reading SS last summer, I KNEW this series was going to
be irresistible to my eleven year-olds. Without going into detail, we had
a MAGICAL year with Harry! We even had a special Harry Potter Day when
our classroom was transformed into HSWW...complete with G and S common
rooms. I don't think I've ever had so much fun in school! The kids LOVED
it! I introduced myself as a substitute professor (Prof. Nellup), and I
explained to my "first years" that Dumbledore had surprised the regular
staff with a little daytrip to the casinos in Atlantic City. (Yes...I'm
from NJ). Life-long memories were formed that day. The motivation to
read that has bloomed in even the weakest and most reluctant readers has
truly been a joy to behold. I'm not surprised by the growing number of
adult fans. I sincerely believe we adults love these books because they
awaken the "child" in each of us...the spirit of fantasy and imagination
at its best.(Sorry this is so long!)
