"You could just leave me here," Harry put in hopefully (he'd be able
to watch what he wanted on tv for a changend maybe even go on Dudley's
computer.)
Aunt Petunia looked as though she'd just swallowed a lemon.
"And come back and find the house in ruins?" She snarled.

I just had a thought...do you suppose Harry, when he was going through his
"terrible twos" at the Dursley house, did some inadvertant damage? Harry
was able to do a bit of magic, when upset or angry, before he knew he
was a wizard. George Weasley (Fred?) did the same when Ron broke his toy
broomstick...though just a small child, he turned Ron's teddy bear into
a spider. Perhaps Harry, as a toddler, did some major damage while angry
(because he was no doubt treated like scum) and this is why the Dursleys
are afraid he's going to blow up the house. :)
