Actually I rather liked the twist in his treatment of Malfoy-- I don't
think it was an act at all. I think he really did despise this runty son
of the man whom he felt was disloyal to his Master and was enjoying the
opportunity to get his digs in.
Remember at the end of the book how he is amazed that Voldemort forgave
the followers who covered their butts after his demise, while he and
others had to go to Azkaban? He had expected them to be severely punished.

Allowing us to THINK he was just standing up for Harry..... !
