<<I was wondering that myself-- It says that Professor Sinistra was
dancing with a man, but does the book refer to Sinistra as "she"?>>
Much as I would welcome a vaguely gay reference in a Harry Potter book,
it seems unlikely. I'm fairly sure that Sinistra is identified as female
somewhere in the book, because I remember thinking while I was reading,
'oh, so Sinistra and Vector are both witches'.
Obvious to say it, but this means that most of the staff are women,
but none has a really big role - there's McGonagall, Sprout, Trelawney
and Hooch, plus Vector and Sinistra, not to mention Pince, Pomfrey and
Grubbly-Plank. But, only McGonagall has a role of any 'significance'
to date, unless you count Madame Maxime.
Among the men, though, Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid and the various DADA
teachers have all been major characters. Only Flitwick and Binns (and
Kettleburn)are extras.
I hope we get to see a bit more of the witch contingent in future books...
Er, who teaches Muggle Studies, BTW?
Neil
