I had always thought those myths were written by mothers or wives who
didn't want their sons or husbands cheating on them.

Altho' they may have been written by women as a form of wish-fulfillment:
vengeance on the boyfriend who left her for someone prettier.

I *said* they Veela aren't all bad. They bring fertility to the crops
of people who are polite to them, and they make submissive wives and
excellent housekeepers as long as they can't get ahold of their swan skin.
