I think that, by repeating basic info from the previous books, it
helps to refresh the memories of the kiddies reading them. Remember,
these ARE written for children, no matter how enjoyable they are to
adults. My brother, for example, read book one two years ago, and is
just now starting on book three. He reads slowly because he's just a kid,
and he doesn't have a chance to read much during the school year because
of homework and such. To kids like this, the little reminders are nice
so they can...I don't know...get their bearings in the book.

That's my theory, anyway.
