And in Julian May's various Remillard serieses - and in those books,
they're very necessary since they move like a, oh what's it called,
a Rembus strip? Rhombus strip? The thing where you travel on both sides
of a strip of paper without lifting your finger while going in a circle?
The only long series I can think of where it's not done is in Little House
on the Praire - and even there, she puts little "remember" bits throughout
the later books - references back to the Big Woods or Plum Creek.
