A M'bius band. Augustus M'bius was a student of Gauss and was around from
1790 to 1868. The M'bius band is the simplist example of a non-orientable
surface.
As with all mathematicians of that era, he was interested in serveral
areas of mathematics and his work on geometrical transformations is
very impressive. This, and further gemotrical ideas from mathematicians
(such as Klein and Gauss) formed part of my course last year. It is
complex mathematics that is very easy to visulise.
