<<What do you think is going on with Harry being present at Voldemort's
house in a dream state?>>

I took the first couple of pages to be a 'setting the scene' thing for
the remainder of the chapter. This was what confused me.

If it was a setting the scene bit then the rest of the chapter is a
'dream' type thing for Harry. Which left me with the question of why a
sudden change of style?

The book could have been written so that first Harry found out about
Little Hangleton and its past and then has the dream. To me the first
part of the chapter was a sudden change in writing style.

Ignoring chapter 1 of PS, which gives the introduction to the stories,
all the rest has been written so that we see, hear, etc. whatever Harry
sees, hears, etc. Then suddenly we get this introduction that does not
fit in with this style.

Chapter 1 was a big let down for me when I started to read he book and I
had already heard about it from the leaked copies. Until I got to chapter
3 I was not really interested in the story and so it took me well over
an hour to read what is only 20 pages. After this I got into the story
and remained reading for hours.

The start did not get me hooked on the story and if it was not for the
fact that I am so interested in the series, and impressed by JKR's style,
I probably would have stopped. GoF's start just did not grab my attention.

Simon

PS: I did enjoy the book, I just had to ignore the start!
