Hi:
<<<Hermione is a sure bet to become a prefect. I think the "job" is
based on grade point average.>>>
Are the prefects *chosen* or selected from a pool of applicants? Can a
"chosen" prefect reject the position (presumably yes)? I can't imagine
Harry applying to be one. I don't think he'd be chosen, but I don't
think it's because of his marks. I think it's that "disregard for rules"
that would be a stumbling block.
<<<Harry is definitely NOT - he's not a good student.>>>
Actually, I don't think this is true. He's great at DADA. While his
potions grade probably isn't great based on the antipathy between he &
Snape (and he may hate the subject anyway), I think his other grades are
described as being middle of the road average. That certainly doesn't
make him a bad student in my mind. He's just not top of the class
like Hermione. But, he's not in the lower half with Crabbe & Goyle
either. And, we've had plenty of evidence that he's got a brain!!! I
guess his Divination grades probably aren't stellar either. :--)
<<<The only subject he is good at is Defense Against The Dark Arts, and
possibly Hagrid would give him high marks for Care of Magical Creatures
as well, since he at least participates.>>>
I think he does more than just participate in Care of Magical Creatures
-- he seems to take initiative & do well in general. The class is just
kind of drab b/c of Hagrid's lack of confidence now. I don't think DADA
is the only class he's good at -- it just happens to be the standout best.
<<<I'm not sure about Ron -- he seems to be about the same level as Harry,
but we're not really told about his classroom talents, if he has any.>>>
I think he's about average -- perhaps slightly lower marks than Harry
since I would guess Harry's DADA grades would push his average up some.
Penny (*way* too much time on my hands today I guess)
