We do have evidence that Snape was in Slytherin. Somewhere in GoF Sirius
tells Harry that Snape used to hang out with a group of other Slytherins,
most of whom became DeathEaters.

But do we actually know that James and Lily were in Gryffindor? I thought
that was an assumption we were making; that we really hadn't had any
actual proof.
