Ron wants *desperately* to be a prefect, and Quidditch captain and star
player, (which is kind of pathetic as the poor kid didn't even make the
House team,) and to get a record number of OWLs, and to be Head Boy,
*and* Triwizard Tournament champion: only if he did ALL those things
would he feel that he can accomplished enough to just barely be worthy
of his brothers...
The scenario that I'm accustomed to is that a person feels the need to
accomplish various successes in order to feel 'worthy' BECAUSE he/she
feels pretty 'unworthy' [low self-esteem] most of the time. And one
common cause of this is parents who act very critical and/or unloving
most of the time, with maybe a short burst of affection or pride when
the kid has some big accomplishment...
That doesn't accord too well with our impression of the Weasely family
as a very loving and huggy family....
Altho; it does go with Ron commenting that his mother can never remember
that he hates corned beef because, with so many children, it's hard to
remember which is which...
