Subject: JKR interview

I have spent the last few minutes listening to JKR on BBC Radio 1. A few
points raised are mentioned below. It will be on the BBC website from
midday (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/djs/mayo.shtml). Bits in quotation
marks are said by the interviewer (Simon Mayo). The rest is JKR comments.
Liam Aiken has not been cast as Harry
Harry, and the rest of the cast, will be British
JKR has had a fair amount of say in the film (it sounds as if Warner
are being especially good as they want the rights to all of the books)
"Has JKR got complete confidence in CC" - yes
JKR gets many letter from kids (mainly American) asking to go to Hogwarts
and she replies to them in the persona of Dumbledore.
Publicity shy, JKR likes meeting the children who read her book.
It was originally writen to be her private world.
"Is Harry growing up quicker than the readers? Is this a problem?"
JKR's aim was to keep the younger readers but let them grow up, and age,
with the books.
What is the point of continuing to fight when evil is always there and
Dumbledore's quote from book 1 ('..while you may only have delayed his
return to power, it will merely take someone else who is prepared to
fight what seems a losing battle next time - and if he is delayed again,
and again, why, he may never return to power.').
JKR would not elaborate much about this, saying it would spoil the ending
of book 7.
Does this mean there will be no death for Voldemort?
"Getting darker?"
Yes, but good is hard to show if you do not show how bad evil is.
The evil is used to show how good Harry, Hermione and Ron are. Suggesting
that they will stay loyal and true.
JKR would not confirm that Harry, Hermione and Ron survive to the end
of the series. In fact, she just avoided answering the question.
"Life after Harry?"
Doing something completely differetn appeals. Does not think she could
write anything as popular again.
Not ruling out more Harry books, but the story is planned over 7
books. Harry dies in book 7 - only a joke! Or is it?
The section finished with the normal 'God of the Week Questions'.
Make a saint - single parents
Thunderbolt on someone - Daily Mail, journalists who have interviewed
her ex, Rita Skeeter types!
Perform a miricale - Literacy skills for all
Simon
