I agree, they're *too* much alike. Each needs someone to balance them out.

If Percy is too old for Hermione, so is Viktor. I believe the two guys
are the same age, and even if Viktor's still in school, he is a pro
Quidditch player.

Also, I'm not sure Penelope is in the picture anymore, her name never
even comes up in GoF. I suspect they went the way of many muggle high
school sweethearts, when one goes away to college or work, while the
other still has a year or more to go.

Having been in a long distance romance myself, I found it very weird that
Percy chose to hang out with Ron and Harry at the Yule Ball, instead of
with Penelope. I kept looking for Ron or Harry to urge him to go dance
with her, just to get rid of him. Or perhaps a drop-in remark of why he
couldn't (she's not at the ball, or she's there with her new boyfriend,
etc).

BTW, getting back to Hermione, everyone seems eager to set her up
(the price of being the only developed female character in her age
group <g>). I've heard her set up with Ron, Harry, the Weasley twins,
Krum, even Malfoy, and now Percy! Maybe Rowling will surprise us all,
and make her a nun! Or, more plausibly, a focused career woman who shuns
romantic entanglements. JK!
