Ok, I can't find the references you point to, I only have the UK books,
but in no place does ANYONE confirm the snapping od Hagrids wand. If we
weren't following Harry arund, and JKR added her bit "Hagrid cast his
mind back to the day his wand was actually snapped, - Nicholas Stoker,
stop going on about it, - he looked down at his Umberella and thought
what would have happened if He hadn't been expelled".

The only person who says he has had it snapped is Hagrid - and him being
expelled is the only thing he gets uncomfortable about talking about. Even
after his name was cleared - they still didn't like to ask him, AND -
we never get told about him having a new wand for his teaching job. His
Umberella manages to
A) Turn Dudleys arse into a pigs backside - complete with tail.
B) Speed up the trip across sea with the rowing boat
C) Open the doors to Diagonalley (My guess is a normall stick couldn't
do this)
D) Increase the size of Pumpkins to taller than Harry - with a 'Standard
Engourgement charm'

We see what happens to Ron's wand on even the simplest of spells,
and I don't think it is possible for Hagrids wand to NOT spark, smoke,
backfire, explode etc... without being in full working order. Hagrid
only says his wand is broken because
A) Olivander doesn't know the details of Hagrids expulsion, and obviously
treats it like giving a man convicted of cruelty to animals a dog lead
and a small cage.
B) Why does Harry need to know the truth? Things could just get
complicated.
Also - the headmaster who expleed him was obviously geting rid of him as
a scapegoat only, and must have had an incling of what happened - either
way - I don't beleive he was up to being headmaster, and would probably
have forgotten to snap his wand - he was too busy trying toforget the
entire incident.

My mind WILL not be changed by you, or by the book. Hagrid's word is not
enough - WE ARE ALL sure that his umberella has powers - and he hasn't
even admitted to that - the way he tells it - it has been disposed of.

I will not be moved

Nicholas
