Oh, I think we have enought proof from SS that the wand IS in fact snapped
in half, but still in use in the umbrella. Mr. Ollivander asks Hagrid
if his wand was snapped in half when he was expelled, and Hagrid says,
"Yes, but I've still got the pieces" Mr. Ollivander asks, "But you don't
USE them?" and Hagrid answers "no" very quickly, but Harry notices that
Hagrid is gripping his pink umbrella very tightly. Of course his wand
is inside the umbrella! Who would be dense enough not to get that? It's
around whenever Hagrid does magic, and he's even pointed it like a wand
before. I personally think it's very clear....
