Two more thoughts.
#1 If a wand can be broken, no doubt it can be repaired, and perhaps
Hagrid had it repaired and put into the umbrella. He probably found a
shady wand repair shop that fixed it for him and disquised it as his
umbrella. Why not ?

#2 While broken in half, the magical portion of the wand, near the end
was still intact, just shorter. The "handle" part was separated from the
magic part of the wand when broken. Cellotaped the two pieces together,
didn't have the nice "whip" or "feel" but still worked just fine for
Hagrid and his needs. He then put it in his umbrella to hide it since he
was'nt to have one. Dumbledore must know he has it since he mentioned
he could use magic to get Harry in book #1, but once he reached Harry
then he was to stop using magic.

#3 He keeps the remains of his wand in a special place in his cabin,
and bought a magic umbrella wand to replace it while in the shady area
of Diagon alley. While not as good as "his" wand, it takes care of his
magical requirements. Being a lesser quality, and not "His" wand he
couldn't completely turn him into a pig.

#4 Does it matter??? ha!! We "know" what his umbrella is.
