Percy just has the "I Am My Job" Syndrome. At Hogwarts he was first
and foremost "a prefect" and "Head Boy". If someone (say, the Spanish
Inquisition, which no one expects) were to leap out from behind a
Shrubbery and shout "WHO ARE YOU?" then this is my guess of startled
response:

Percy - I am Mr. Crouch's Assistant
Harry - I am Harry Potter
Ron - I am Harry Potter's best friend
Hermione - I am a student
Draco - I am Lucius Malfoy's son

It's whatever you identify with the most, and usually (hopefully)
changes as you mature.
